What is Air Cleaning and How is it Different From Air Filtration?

It’s not news that you need clean air in your home in order to keep your family from being constantly sick. Between dust mites, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, and other harmful airborne particles, people who suffer from allergies and asthma simply can’t find relief. Even winter weather won’t make all of the allergens and asthma triggers disappear inside of your home.

You know that you need to get that stuff out of the air, but what’s the best method for achieving optimal air quality? You may have heard of both air filtration and air cleaning, but you’re not sure which is right for you. Read on to help answer your questions about which to use.

Air Filtration

Air filters are a necessity for any HVAC system. They keep those airborne particles from getting into the system and clogging it up, which causes damage and necessitates costly repairs. They also help to clean the air for the occupants, but only to a certain degree – many harmful pollutants, such as fungus spores and tobacco smoke, can still circulate around the house since they are small enough to pass right through the air filter.

Air Cleaning

An air cleaning system not only protects the system from the larger harmful particles, but also the health of your family. It traps up to 99 percent of pollutants, no matter the size, without restricting the airflow to the HVAC system.

Air cleaners are able to filter and clean the air of:

  • Tobacco smoke
  • Dust mites
  • Ash
  • Pet dander
  • Mold and mildew spores
  • Dust and dirt
  • Fungus spores
  • Pollen

So which is better for your situation? If anyone in your home suffers from allergies, asthma, or is elderly or immunocompromised, it’s highly recommended that you have an air cleaning system installed. Having only an air filter may not be enough to keep your family healthy.
